Let Dogs Be Dogs

Go back thirty years and dogs weren’t as popular. On my street as a kid I was one of the few people that had a dog. For quite a while we were the only family that did. That isn’t the case anymore, more and more people are getting dogs and with that comes problems but I will chat about that later.

Thirty years ago dogs weren’t put under so much stress to fit in with our world.

For example if a dog growled at you then you left that dog alone! If a dog bit you it was your own bloody fault! If a dog chewed something they weren’t supposed to there wasn’t much you could do about it.

The dog world has changed. We understand our dog’s needs much more and training methods on the whole, are much more positive than they used to be but the same can’t be said for our opinions on bad behaviour.

If a dog growls that is often viewed as totally unacceptable and if a dog bites we are very quick to blame that dog and it may even end up with the end of the dog’s life.

Now I’m not saying we shouldn’t be bothered when dogs bite. I want dogs subtle stress signals to be recognised so dogs don’t feel the need to growl or bite.

So if that is the case then we need to prepare our dogs so these behaviours won’t be displayed.

Puppies need to be taught to share and give things up easily. We need to socialise them fully with people and surroundings so they are not afraid of new surroundings or strangers leading them to possibly act out of character.

Our puppy life skills course teaches your puppies all of these skills. We have a few spots left on our course grab yours now - https://www.dedicatedtodogs.co.uk/book-online
