With any training consistency is everything.
Whether this it’s with children, dogs or horses.
If one day you get let them get away with murder then guess what they are going to expect to do the same thing the next day.
As I tell all my clients dogs will only do what works.
So……
If jumping up at you gets your attention.
They are going to continue to do so.
This is where training comes in.
Being consistent when they jump up by turning away is a great start.
But…..
We also need to teach our dogs what we want them to do instead.
We need to pay them for their good behaviour.
Once they learn having all four paws on the floor pays and jumping up at your doesn’t
You guessed it!
They are going to keep all four paws on the floor.
As I’ve talked about before we need to motivate our dogs to work with us.
If you worked all week and you didn’t get paid I highly doubt you would be going back to do another week.
I sure as hell wouldn’t!!
Your dogs are the same!
So be consistent, teach your dog to what we want them to do and pay them for it.
Also make the unwanted behaviour not pay.
And VOILA!!!
